  • CompassPoint Nonprofit Services is a consulting, research, and training organization providing nonprofits with management tools, strategies, and resources to lead change in their communities. CompassPoint is home to Board Café, the electronic newsletter exclusively for members of nonprofit boards of directors.
  • National Council of Nonprofits is a national-state-local network that works to advance the vital role, capacity, and voice of charitable nonprofit organizations through state and national networks.
  • The Nonprofit Quarterly provides a forum for the critical thinking and exploration needed to help nonprofits stay true to this democratic calling—and to achieve their potential as effective, powerful, and influential organizations in concert with their constituencies.

  • Association of Fundraising Professionals works to “advance philanthropy through education, training, and advocacy.” The Houston Chapter of AFP hosts luncheons and workshops.
  • Center for Community Support at Texas A&M provides a broad range of no-cost grant-writing services for Texas communities.
  • Charity Channel is an online community comprised of nonprofit-sector professionals from around the world who volunteer their time, advice, information, tips and articles for the benefit of the community.
  • Chronicle of Philanthropy is a news source for charity leaders, fund raisers, grant makers, and others involved in philanthropic enterprises.
  • Federal Grants Notifier System is a central storehouse for information on over 1,000 grant programs and provides access to approximately $400 billion in annual awards.
  • Foundation Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. grantmakers and their grants.  Visitors can view IRS 990 PF’s for U.S. grantmakers and statistics on grantmakers. The site also offers online courses on grantwriting and more, offers Request for Proposal (RFP) bulletins and email notifications of RFP’s related to your area.
  • GrantStation provides access to a searchable database of grantmakers that are actively accepting proposals from a variety of organizations. There is a membership fee.
  • Grassroots Fundraising Journal offers free articles as well as ones available by subscription.
  • Guidestar provides information and IRS 990 PFs on private foundations and IRS 990s on other nonprofits.
  • Grant Writers’ Network of Greater Houston offers classes and networking for grant writing professionals.
  • Nonprofit Resource Center of Texas offers subscription access to a database to research foundations.
  • Noza Search is a free, online searchable database containing more than 26 million charitable donation records.
  • Texas Center for Grants Development provides grant-related services to nonprofit, faith-based and community-based organizations, including GrantQuest, a weekly e-publication, that describes public and private funding opportunities.
  • Texas Nonprofits offers a foundation search feature as well as forms and letters for grant writers.

  • American Evaluation Association  provides information about evaluation practices, methods, and uses through application and exploration of program evaluation, personnel evaluation, and technology.
  • Evaluation Exchange by the Harvard Family Research Project is a periodical that contains new lessons and emerging strategies for evaluating programs and policies, particularly those focused on children, families, and communities.
  • The Innovation Network offers web-based tools and resources for evaluation, including a logic model development tool.
  • Outcome Indicators Project is a joint project of the Urban Institute and The Center for What Works.  The Project provides a framework for tracking nonprofit performance, and suggests candidate outcomes and indicators to assist nonprofit organizations seeking to develop new outcome monitoring processes or improve their existing systems.
  • W. K. Kellogg Foundation Logic Model Development Guide provides practical assistance to nonprofits engaged in demonstrating the effectiveness of their program activities by initiating and completing outcome-oriented evaluation of projects, specifically through the practice of "logic modeling".
